CompuMail Corp. Wins 6 at 2011 New England Regional Printing Awards of Excellence Competition

CompuMail had another exciting night at the Printing Industries of New England 2011 Awards of Excellence Competition!

The Printing Industries of New England (PINE) has announced that CompuMail Corp. of Southington is a multiple award winner in the Association’s New England regional Awards of Excellence Competition. The announcement was made November 15th during PINE’s 2011 Industry Awards Gala, held at the Newton Marriott in Newton, MA, with hundreds of industry professionals in attendance. PINE’s Awards of Excellence Competition, attracted over 200 entries from 30 printing and imaging companies across New England competing in a variety of printing and graphic communications categories such as best annual report, direct mail campaign, corporate identity package, and more.

CompuMail won a Pinnacle Award (Best of Category) and 3 Awards of Recognition, and an Award of Merit. A panel of judges with extensive experience in printing and print production, were brought in to examine the wide range of work submitted. Each entry was judged anonymously on its own merit in a category with similar printed pieces. The judging criteria included: registration, clarity and neatness, sharpness of halftones and line drawings, richness and tonal qualities of color, paper and ink selection, ink coverage, difficulty of printing, effective contrast or softness, overall visual impact and bindery.

Gala attendees also had the opportunity to be a judge. Each attendee was able to cast a secret ballot vote for his/her favorite selection from the gallery of winning pieces and again, CompuMail was selected for the Peoples Choice Award for the dimensional (tactile) printing of the CPTV UConn Men’s Basketball Yearbook.

Dimensional Printing Set’s Hospital Campaign Apart From Others PDF Print E-mail

One of Connecticut’s premier hospital systems has been a long time client of ours here at CompuMail.  We have worked on a number of projects from development work to human resources recruitment campaigns. Recently we worked on a recruitment campaign for float nurses. The campaign consisted of a number of mailings that utilized not only personalization, but engaged our dimensional/tactile printing capabilities. With texture added to the side of root beer float (you could feel the moisture on the outside of the glass), one piece allowed you to feel the seams in a hot air balloon and another allowed you to feel the texture of surgical gloves.

We were fortunate to work with the staff at Connecticut Public Broadcasting to produce the University of Connecticut Women Huskies Basketball Team Yearbook earlier this year. The publication was met with rave reviews by everyone who purchased it, and our friend Jack Callahan from CPTV was kind enough to pass along a number of comments to us including this one from a retired photographer:

UConn Women's Basketball 2010-2011 Yearbook PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 01 March 2011 16:14

During mid December (2010), we started working on the Connecticut Public Broadcasting Network’s production of the “University of Connecticut Women’s Basketball 2010-2011 Yearbook”.

This publication was a replacement for the yearly “Media Guide” that was going to be made available only on-line for the 2010-11 season and going forward. As a replacement piece for the CPTV viewers, Jack Callahan and Harriet Unger, Executive Producer of UConn Women’s Basketball, created the concept around a “Yearbook” that would be full color with a tactile cover (you can actually feel the texture of the basketballs in Maya Moore and Lorin Dixon’s hands on the cover). Coach Geno Auriemma graces the back cover with a silhouette of the UConn Pep Band. The entire front and back cover are dimpled using dimensional clear ink to replicate the feeling of a basketball when you hold it. (Oh…the magic of our Kodak SE2500 NexPress)
